MIAMI - Dr. Robert B.
Ingram, District l School Board Member, will hold a "Read
to Lead" awards ceremony on Wednesday, December 15,
from 6-8 p.m. at Opa-locka Elementary School, 600 Ahmad
St., Opa-locka. The ceremony will be a celebration of
the many accomplishments of District l students and will
include:
Award presentations
to students
Readings by Miami-Dade County School Board members,
Superintendent of Schools Roger C. Cuevas, Miami-Dade
Mayor Alex Penelas, State Sen. Kendrick Meek, and a host
of sports celebrities.
A "Hands On" workshop for parents on
issues such as Home-to-Work, FCAT prep, college readiness,
health care, and the Governor's voucher and A+ plans.
"Our effort to
improve student performance must be reading, " said
Dr. Ingram. "To that end, parents and other members
of the community and our school district must work together.
District l has embarked on a "Read to Lead" initiative
with the belief that reading expands one's ability to write,
compute, think, and articulate thoughts," Dr. Ingram
added.
