MIAMI
- Miami-Dade County School Board Member Dr. Robert B.
Ingram recently received two tributes in honor of his
outstanding record of community service.
United Teachers of Dade recognized Dr.
Ingram at its annual Rev. Martin Luther King Black Caucus
Celebration. Dr. Ingram, chair of the Florida Martin Luther
King Institute for Nonviolence, was hailed as a unique
and creative trailblazer who promotes excellence in spiritual,
political, cultural, civic, economic, social, and educational
endeavors.
In his response, Dr. Ingram paid tribute
to the late Rev. King, calling on the audience to achieve
the civil rights leader's "dream of brotherly and
sisterly love."
Dr. Ingram also was honored by schools
in the Miami Carol City Senior High School feeder pattern.
Among the talented students from each school who performed
were two of Dr. Ingram's granddaughters, Miami Carol City
elementary students Jacquesha Key, who sang "His
Eye is on the Sparrow," and Diayana Johnson, a member
of her school's award winning drill team.
Dr. Ingram described his progress from
high-school dropout to School Board member. He ended his
presentation with school principals and other memebers
of the audience joining in an inspirational chant urging
students to stay in school and to excel.
