On Friday July 25th, 2003,
Miami-Dade County School Board Member Dr. Robert B. Ingram
addressed students, administrators and conference attendees
at the 6th Annual AfrICANDO Trade and Investment Symposium
held at the New Radisson Hotel located on 1601 Biscayne
Blvd., Miami, FL, the conference which featured an African/African-American
Brain-Quest and African Diaspora Youth Conflict Resolution
Panel was designed to both assess student's knowledge
of African history and to establish a model for engendering
solidarity amongst students from the African diaspora.
In his remarks, Dr. Ingram affirmed, "Now more than
ever, our children must be about the business of lifting
each other up rather than tearing each other down."
The Youth Forum, an offshoot
of a partnership between the Foundation for Democracy
in Africa and the Miami-Dade County School Board to establish
Sister Schools between Schools in Miami-Dade County and
various schools within the African continent, has been
herald as the most innovative addition to the annual event.
One particular highlight of this years' conference was
the participation of students from the FAWE Girls School
from Kigali, Rwanda.
Ever since its inception,
AfrICANDO has grown to become the premier conference in
the nation that seeks to connect peoples of the African
diaspora through trade, commerce and cultural exposition.
