HIGHLIGHTS and INITIATIVES

Ø November 17th, 2004, Dr. Ingram presented an item requesting the Board to direct the Superintendent to review WLRN operational agreement.

Ø September 8th, 2004, Dr. Ingram presented an item requesting authorization for student/teacher to travel out of the country (Rwanda/East Africa).

Ø August 18th, 2004, Dr. Ingram presented an item directing the Chief Auditor, through the Superintendent of Schools, to perform an audit of the Office of Professional Standards.

Ø June 16th, 2004, Dr. Ingram presented an item authorizing the Superintendent to initiate a feasibility study to expand the Jann Mann Opportunity School to include an athletic facility and new State of the Art Choice Senior High School based on the Academy model to include Academies of Aviation Science, Legal & Public Affairs, Sports Medicine, and Teaching Arts, and enter into dialogue with Florida Memorial College to form a cooperative agreement.

Ø June 16th, 2004, Dr. Ingram presented an item directing the Superintendent to review the applicability of Critical Path Scheduling in all School Construction Projects.

Ø February 11th, 2004, Dr. Ingram presents an item for the School Board to authorize the superintendent to direct staff to enhance the current Language Arts/Reading Professional Development Components to include instructional strategies focused on vocabulary acquisition and use of Standard English to be implemented beginning with the 2004-2005 school year.

Ø January 14th, 2004, Dr. Ingram presented a resolution recognizing the Miami Carol City Senior High School football team, The Chiefs, for winning the 2003 Football Class 6A Florida State Championships.

Ø November 19th, 2003, Dr. Ingram presented an item requesting authorization for the superintendent to amend existing contractual agreement with the James E. Scott Community Association, Inc., to provide transportation services.

Ø November 19th, 2003, Dr. Ingram presented an item requesting the exploration of the feasibility of establishing a joint task-force to align the delivery of transportation services between Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Miami-Dade County.

Ø October 22nd, 2003, Dr. Ingram presented an item requesting that the School Board accept and fund the recommendations outlined in the feasibility study for Florida Law Enforcement accreditation for the Miami-Dade School Police Department.

Ø July 9th, 2003, Dr. Ingram presents an item for the School Board to approve the 1st School Board sanctioned Student travel to Africa (Kigali , Rwanda).

Ø June 18th, 2003, Dr. Ingram introduces an item for the Board to direct the superintendent to implement a thirteenth-year dual enrollment program as an additional Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) Remediation Initiative.

Ø March 12th, 2003, Dr. Ingram presents an item for the Board to direct the superintendent to initiate rule making procedures to implement a policy to restrict guns on Miami-Dade County Public School grounds.

Ø March 12th, 2003, Dr. Ingram introduces an item for the Board to direct the superintendent to develop additional procedures to increase the participation of minority, women, and small businesses.

Ø February 12th, 2003, Dr. Ingram introduces an item for the Board to direct the superintendent to have staff design and publish a magazine profiling all of the Teacher of the Year Nominees and Winners on an annual basis.

Ø February 12th, 2003, Dr. Ingram introduces an item for the Board to direct the superintendent to provide a report outlining the initiatives, interventions, and strategies used in Miami-Dade County Public Schools that maximize the success of our students’ passing the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT), especially to ensure that High School Student’s Graduate with a Standard Diploma.

Ø February 12th, 2003, Dr. Ingram introduces an item to the Board to direct the superintendent to provide a report outlining the initiatives, interventions, and strategies used in Miami-Dade County Public Schools that maximize the success of our students’ passing the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT), especially as a safeguard that third graders are not left behind.

Ø January 15th, 2003, Dr. Ingram presented a Board resolution honoring Miami Norland Senior High School VIKINGS for winning the Class 6A State Football Championships.

Ø December 11th, 2002, Dr. Ingram introduces an item for the Board to direct the superintendent to develop a plan to amend the budget to salvage the paraprofessional program.

Ø August 22nd, 2001, Dr. Ingram presents an item for the Board to direct the superintendent to determine the strategy for collaborating with the Foundation for Democracy in Africa towards establishing Sister School Partnerships and Student Exchange programs with schools in Africa.

Ø July 11th, 2001, Dr. Ingram introduces an item for the Board to direct the superintendent to require newly hired teachers who have not passed a general knowledge test, which is required for state certification, such as the College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST), to participate in training courses offered by the Teacher education Center, a condition of employment.

Ø June 7th, 2001 Dr. Ingram’s “Read to Lead” on Tour with students from Myrtle Grove, Nathan B. Young and Skyway Elementary Schools on a Black History tour of St. Augustine and culminates at Universal Studios, FL.

Ø May 5th, 2001 Dr. Ingram Delivers Plenary Address at the 16th National Conference on Preventing Crime in the Black Community.

Ø April 26th, 2001 Dr. Ingram served as Commencement Speaker for D.A. Dorsey Adult Center Class of 2001’.

Ø February 14th, 2001, Dr. Ingram introduces an item directing the Superintendent to conduct a review of the Title 1 program to identify best practices and develop six pilot programs for Title 1 students.

Ø August 23rd, 1999 Dr. Ingram served as Special Presenter at an Orientation workshop for School Security Personnel.

Ø June 11th, 1999 Dr. Ingram hosted a forum on Violence Prevention at Miami Carol City Senior.

Ø May 12th, 1999, Dr. Ingram introduces an item for the establishment of an ad hoc committee for the development of a comprehensive plan for safety, violence prevention, and the programmatic placement of juvenile offenders who are students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Ø May 6th, 1999 Dr. Ingram served as Invited Speaker at Miami Carol City Annual Parade of stars.

Ø May 5th, 1999 Dr. Ingram kicks-off his “Read to Lead” initiative at Skyway Elementary School.

Ø May 5th, 1999 Dr. Ingram served as Invited Speaker at Miami Douglas MacArthur Senior High School’s “Senior Class” appreciation breakfast.

Ø March 17th, 1999, Dr. Ingram introduces an item for the Board to receive a Report on “Direct Instruction,” a curriculum designed to improve standardized test scores for inner city schools.

Ø April 28th, 1999 Dr. Ingram served as Invited Speaker at a dedication of home built by William Turner Tech students.

Ø April 27th, 1999 Dr. Ingram delivered keynote address at Miami-Dade County Public School’s Multicultural student’s forum.

Ø April 26th, 1999 Dr. Ingram served as Presenter on “Multicultural Marketing at Continuing Education: Vitality and Visibility in the New Millenium”.

Ø March 3rd, 1999 Dr. Ingram joined WMBM Radio station to kick-off his “Read to Lead” initiative.

Other Noteworthy Initiatives

Ø Dr. Ingram who has in the last three years 2002-2003, 2003-2004, and 2004-2005 been elected Vice-Chair of the Miami-Dade County School Board, has afforded 351 deserving students from 27 District 1 schools to embark on an all-expense paid “Read to Lead” educational excursion to St. Augustine and Universal Studios, FL.

Ø Dr. Ingram hosts an annual “Read to Lead” FCAT articulation and Sharing of Best Practices workshop for District 1 Principals.

Ø Invited Dr. Winifred Latimore-Norma, daughter of acclaimed scientist, Dr. Lewis Latimore, as a viable historic and educational experience for Miami-Dade County Public School students.

Ø Invited the acclaimed international scholar and historian, Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, III, an important role model-model for our young people.

Ø Invited the descendants of Abraham Lincoln, Fredrick Douglass, John Quincy Adams, Booker T. Washington, and Harriet Tubman, as a viable historic and educational experience for Miami-Dade County Public School students.

Ø Invited world renowned scholar and 2003 Nobel Prize Nominee in Physics Dr. Gabriel Oyibo, an important role-model for our young people.

Ø Opportunity for 90 students in the “Rites of Passage” program to a two-day, one night all-expense paid educational excursion to Busch Gardens and the historical Rosewood, FL.

Ø Establishment of an African “Rites of Passage” program – a School District’s Pilot project for the Miami-Carol City Feeder pattern.

Ø Establishment of a “Read to Lead” Parent Resource “Entrepreneurial” Center at Fulford Elementary School.
